Recently, the Symposium on the High – quality Development of Yueyang’s Modern Petrochemical Industry was held in Yueyang, the hometown of Mr. Fan Xudong, known as the “Father of China’s National Chemical Industry”. Xie Weijiang, Deputy Secretary of the Hunan Provincial Party Committee and Secretary of the Yueyang Municipal Party Committee, presided over the meeting. Fan Liangkai, Chairman of Nanjing Junli Technology Co., Ltd. and Executive Vice – President of the Miluo Fan Yuanlian Fan Xudong Research Association, was invited to participate in the meeting.

Mr. Fan Xudong is known as the “Father of China’s National Chemical Industry”, and his ancestral home is Bishi Town, Miluo City, Hunan Province (formerly belonging to Xiangyin). According to the family tree, he is the 31st – generation descendant of Fan Zhongyan, a famous minister in the Northern Song Dynasty, and Fan Liangkai is the 34th – generation descendant, belonging to the same – clan collateral descendants. It is worth mentioning that although these two people from Miluo, Hunan, were a hundred years apart, they successively founded high – tech industries in Nanjing, continuing the Fan family’s tradition of serving the country through industry.
In 1934, Fan Xudong founded the Yongli Yaba Factory (the predecessor of the current Sinopec Nanhua Company) in Xiejia Dian, Nanjing. After its completion, the factory was known as the “Largest Factory in the Far East”. In 1937, the Yongli Yaba Factory successfully produced China’s first bag of ammonium sulfate fertilizer – “Fertilizer Powder”, breaking the long – term monopoly of foreign countries in the fertilizer field at one stroke. Chairman Mao Zedong once praised him as “The Forerunner of Industry, with Great Merits for China”.
To commemorate Fan Xudong, the Nanjing Jiangbei New Area has built the Fan Xudong Square, with a bronze statue of Mr. Fan Xudong, which is 10.24 meters high including the base, and the Nanjing Fan Xudong, Hou Debang and Nanhua Company Factory History Exhibition Hall. In addition, there are many facilities and communities named after him locally, such as Xudong Middle School, Xudong New City Community, 1934 Cultural Park and Xudong Road, jointly inheriting his spiritual heritage.
